With the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra release, the first thing you may be wondering is how its battery life compares to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple’s biggest model from 2021. We’ve rounded up some of the most popular Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max battery tests from across the internet to bring you answers.
Apple and Samsung are the two most significant smartphone makers in the world. The two companies have always battled it out for the best battery life in a phone, and there isn’t always a clear winner. Samsung usually puts a bigger battery into its flagship devices, but Apple optimizes its hardware and software better for impressive battery life.
When the iPhone 13 Pro Max came out in September 2021, we were astonishingly surprised with the battery life people were getting out of it. I was getting almost eight hours of battery life with 44% remaining. I still get incredible battery life without having to run out of power throughout the day.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max, which has a 4,352 mAh battery, is advertised to have up to 95 hours of audio playback, 28 hours of video playback, and 24 hours of streamed video playback. The device also supports up to 20-watt fast charging if you purchase at least a 20-watt power adapter separately.
- Battery size: 4,352 mAh
- Audio playback: up to 95 hours
- Video playback: up to 28 hours
- Streaming video playback: up to 25 hours
- LTE internet usage: not advertised
- Wi-Fi internet usage: not advertised

Keep in mind that any test performed by anyone will vary based on the network configuration, background apps, various other settings, number of charges, and usage patterns.
While the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra just hit the market on Feb. 25, 2022, many reviewers and other various influencers have had their hands on the device long before that to run several different battery trials. While Samsung advertises “battery life that lasts over a day,” I wouldn’t expect that to actually be the case.
The device does feature a gigantic 5,000 mAh battery, which is 648 mAh larger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s battery with typical use. Samsung advertises up to 81 hours of audio playback, 20 hours of video playback, and 40 hours of talk time. The Galaxy S22 Ultra supports a charging speed of up to 45 watts Super Fast Charging using Samsung’s 45-watt power adapter.
- Battery size: 5,000 mAh (typical); 4,855 mAh (rated)
- Audio playback: up to 81 hours
- Video playback: up to 20 hours
- Streaming video playback: not advertised
- LTE internet usage: up to 20 hours
- Wi-Fi internet usage: up to 21 hours
- 4G LTE talk time: up to 40 hours
- Charging speed: 45W Super Fast Charging
- Charge other devices: yes, Wireless PowerShare
- Operating system: Android 12 with One UI 4
Again, keep in mind that any test performed by anyone will vary based on the network configuration, background apps, S Pen use, various other settings, number of charges, and usage patterns.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has by far better battery life, thanks to Apple’s integration with its hardware and software. Its battery is outstanding and makes me wonder how the iPhone 14 Pro Max will stand with the rumors of an even bigger battery.
Most battery tests performed even concluded that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra had better battery life than the newer Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is quite a disappointment.
