Despite being released almost two years ago, the PlayStation 5 is a hot commodity in the world of gaming, with stock shortages still an issue in many countries around the world. There are whispers that this could improve soon, but for now, it remains a challenge to get your hands on the console.
With that said, if there is any retailer with enough sway to get stock ahead of a big shopping event, it’s Amazon, and we’re expecting potentially exciting things from the PS5 this Prime Day.
If you’re on the hunt for a PS5 bargain this Prime Day, look no further. We explain what to expect, and showcase the best deals we find too.
When is Prime Day 2022?
Amazon’s two-day Prime Day extravaganza is set to take place on 12 and 13 July 2022, as confirmed by the company in mid-June.
The 48-hour sales event is set to be packed with deals and discounts on everything from phones to toothbrushes and hopefully even Sony’s new-gen console, with the bargains first appearing at 12am local time in most territories – though it’s worth noting that it’ll start and end at 12am PT in the US, translating to 3am ET for those on the east coast.
There are a few ‘early’ Prime Day deals, which we cover in more detail in our best Prime Day deals, with a special chance to win prizes by spending money on specific small business products – but that doesn’t include the PS5, unsurprisingly.
It’s likely that Amazon is keeping its tastiest deals – including potential PS5 deals – under wraps until the main two-day event.

What should I expect from PS5 deals this Prime Day?
Before we go any further, it’s worth tapering your expectations about deals on the PS5 this Prime Day.
As you’re probably already aware, the PS5 is in high demand despite release back in November 2020, with stock shortages worldwide still causing issues for prospective buyers in the US, UK and most countries around the world.
With that in mind, it’s probable that there won’t be any money-off deals on the PS5 itself this Prime Day.
What we do expect instead, if Amazon has managed to secure enough stock, is deals on bundles. These could bundle the PS5 with additional controllers, headsets or even games at a discounted price.
We are also expecting deals on PS5 accessories like headsets, controllers and third-party faceplates to customise the look of the console. It might not be much help if you’re yet to get your hands on the console, but it’s a great time to upgrade your setup if you do own one.

When will PS5 stock improve?
If you’re hoping for plentiful stock of the PS5 this Prime Day, we’ve got some bad news; the shortage isn’t due to end anytime soon.
In fact, the troubles plaguing the PS5 production are commonplace across much of the tech industry, with an ongoing global semiconductor shortage reducing the output of key components used in everything from consoles to graphics cards and even mobile chipsets.
There are some hopes that 2023 could signal the end of such shortages, with stock slowly beginning to appear at retailers, but it’s tough to speculate right now.
If you’re unsuccessful this time, don’t fret; we keep tabs on where to buy the PS5 year-round separately if you can’t get your hands on the console this Prime Day.
