Smart plugs are the fastest – and most wallet-friendly – way to start using smart home technology. They’ll turn any plug-in appliance into a connected device that you can schedule, control remotely and set to switch on and off with other smart devices in your home.
We’ve spotted a great deal at Toolstation that lets you buy three TP Link Tapo P100 13a smart plugs for £12.02. They usually cost £8.99 each, meaning you’ll save £14.95. And £4 for a smart plug is, frankly, an amazing deal.
The only snag is that the Toolstation branch near you may or may not have them in stock because they’re not available for delivery. But you can use the collection button on the product page to find your closest stores and check.
We’ve tested and reviewed the Tapo P100: you’ll find it in our round-up of the top smart plugs. One of its best features is that you don’t need a separate hub to control it. It connects via Wi-Fi straight to your broadband router so there’s no need to shell out for any other equipment. Just download the TP-Link app, plug it into the wall and plug in whichever device you’d like to make smart.
The plug also has an on/off switch, so relatives and friends don’t need to use the app. They can use whatever appliance you’ve plugged in as normal.
The TP Link Tapo P100 supports Google Assistant and Alexa. This means you can plug in your favourite lamp and – via your digital assistant – switch it on and off with a voice command.
Another good feature is its away mode, which you can use as an extra layer of home security. The lamp that you plugged in will be switched on and off at random, to make it appear that someone is home.
You’ll find the deal on Toolstation’s website. If there’s no stock near you, the next-best deal we’ve found is a four-pack of Tapo P100 smart plugs for £27.99 from Amazon.
