Vivo has been building a decent reputation over the past few years for solid smartphones that don’t cost the Earth.
Now, rumours are beginning to appear regarding what we’ll see when the Vivo V24 (or is that V25?) makes its way onto the stage, quite possibly within the next few weeks. Here’s all we know about the upcoming device.
Vivo V24, or Vivo V25?
While logic suggests that the successor to the Vivo V23 5G will be the Vivo V24 5G, that isn’t set in stone – especially when you consider that Vivo has already decided to skip the Vivo V22.
Interestingly, rumours and leaks – including a pretty official Google Play Console leak in early August – seem to suggest Vivo has decided to call its upcoming smartphones the Vivo V25 and Vivo V25 Pro, seemingly skipping the V24 moniker.
Of course, that’s yet to be confirmed by Vivo, but don’t be too surprised if the Vivo V25 and Vivo V25 Pro make an appearance on stage at the rumoured Indian launch later this month.
When will the Vivo V24/25 be released?
Vivo hasn’t confirmed when the next-gen smartphone will arrive, so we need to look at the previous models in the series, plus the rumours that are starting to appear. Here’s when the last few iterations of the V2-series appeared:
- Vivo V23 5G: January 2022
- Vivo V21 5G: May 2021
- Vivo V20: December 2020
As you can see, there tends to be around six months between releases – note that there was never a V22, with Vivo skipping that number entirely for some reason.
While a six-month refresh would point towards a June/July refresh, we now know that wasn’t the case.
However, a report from 91Mobiles Hindi suggests that we’re not too far from its reveal. Anonymous sources told the publication that the Vivo V25 Pro will be revealed in India on 17 August 2022, with release set for a week later on 25 August 2022.
Interestingly, the publication doesn’t mention the standard V25, raising questions around whether we’ll just be seeing the Pro at the announcement.
It’s also worth noting that UK, US and European availability is yet to be confirmed. There are plenty of India-bound smartphones that don’t make it to Europe, after all!
How much will the Vivo V24/25 cost?
As with the release date, Vivo has yet to make any announcements about what the new device will cost. But we do have the previous models to use as a guide. Here are the prices for the last couple of V-series devices:
Vivo has only recently started releasing devices outside of Asia and selected other regions, with Europe getting some models but not others. At the time of writing the Vivo V21 5G has arrived in the UK, but only at the end of 2021, while the V23 5G was only available through mainland Europe.
With this in mind, we don’t really know which territories will see the V24/V25 or its rumoured Pro variants when they finally launch. US customers will need to import the phone though, as Vivo is one of many Chinese brands that don’t have representation in America.
What specs and features will we see in the Vivo V24/25?
This also remains an area of speculation, with a few rumours suggesting how the new model will shape up when it’s released – in fact, most rumours up until now have been focused on the more powerful V24/V25 Pro model.
As a pointer, here are the specs for the V23 5G, which will probably end up quite similar to the standard V24:
- Android 12 with Funtouch OS 12
- 6.44in FHD+ AMOLED display, 90Hz, HDR10+
- MediaTek Dimensity 920
- 8/12GB RAM
- 128/256GB internal storage
- 64Mp, f/1.9 main camera
- 8Mp, f/2.2 ultrawide camera
- 2Mp, f/2.4 macro camera
- 50Mp, f/2.0 main selfie camera
- 8Mp, f/2.3 ultrawide selfie camera
- Fingerprint scanner (in-display)
- Bluetooth 5.2
- Schott Xensation Up display coating
- 4200mAh non-removable battery
- 44W charging
- Stardust Black or Sunshine Gold
- 157.2 x 72.4 x 7.4mm
Many of the reports we’ve seen have pointed to a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor being the silicon of choice for the V24. This seems dubious though, as the Dimensity 920 in the V23 5G is a better chip. MyGadgetNews goes with the MediaTek Dimensity 920, which we think is the more likely selection.
Most rumours suggest that Vivo will use a 6.44in AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate once more, and the same 64Mp+8Mp+2Mp camera configuration that featured in the V23 5G.
The good news is that the Pro model is said to get a more impressive boost, with a leaked Geekbench benchmark listing pointing towards the inclusion of the same Dimensity 1300 found in the likes of the OnePlus Nord 2T and Oppo Reno 8.
The leaked listing also suggests it’ll be available in more than one variant, with listings for both 8GB and 12GB versions of the V25 Pro on the Geekbench database.
It’s also said to offer an upgraded selfie camera experience with its 32Mp selfie camera, complete with OIS capabilities.
The Pro model is also said to arrive with the same colour-changing Fluorite AG Glass on its rear, and it’ll also sport 66W fast charging.
